SCHEV is the agency designated by the U.S. Department of Education
as the avenue of last resort for student complaints against institutions of higher education in Virginia. A student must complete the school's own complaints process prior to contacting SCHEV. Students should consult their school catalog or handbook to
determine how to file a formal grievance with the school. If a student's formal appeal has been denied by the school, then he or she can submit a student complaint to SCHEV.

GEAR UP is a federally funded program that supports a specific group of students as they move through school. Virginia's GEAR-UP program is administered by SCHEV.
