About the toolkit

Partnership Toolkit

GEAR UP Virginia works toward the goal of significantly increasing the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in education after high school.

To accomplish this goal, GEAR UP Virginia focuses on:

  • Increasing academic performance and preparation for postsecondary education.
  • Increasing the rate of high school graduation and enrollment in postsecondary education.
  • Increasing GEAR UP Virginia students’ and their families’ knowledge of postsecondary education options, preparation, and financing.

GEAR UP Virginia is applying for a seven-year grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education from 2021 to 2028. The program will serve 14 school divisions, if funded and support a cohort of over 5,000 students starting in 7th grade through their first year of postsecondary education. GEAR UP Virginia students and their families will receive a variety of services aimed at preparing them academically, financially, and inspirationally to enroll and succeed in college. In addition, GEAR UP Virginia students can receive a scholarship to be used for postsecondary education.
